For 2018, Mazda Team Joest will again race under Daytona Prototype international (DPi) rules in the Prototype class of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The new team - which combines the third-winningest manufacturer in IMSA history with the most successful team in endurance sports car racing history - will be racing the highly updated Mazda RT24-P chassis that has been developed by Multimatic.
The Mazda Road to 24 driver development program offers scholarships to help drivers move up the racing ladder from grassroots to the top of North American sports car racing. The Mazda Road to Indy is a similar system in open-wheel racing, and includes three Mazda-powered categories. In IMSA competition, Mazda powers the Mazda Prototype Challenge cars in the IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda series, in addition to the third-generation Mazda MX-5s that compete in the Street Tuner (ST) class in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.
