September 12th is going to be a big day not only for the museum and Old Clarkesville Mill but the City of Clarkesville. On September 12, the City of Clarkesville will be celebrating the Mountain Laurel Festival which was rescheduled from the spring. We will be hosting our cruise-in at the same time which will go all day from 10 to 6 with live museum, food and vendors.
We are going to step it up even more though. The City of Clarkesville is going to put on a little car show that will run between 9 and 1 with Top 10 awards. This show will also be located at the Old Clarkesville Mill on the front lawn in conjunction with our cruise-in. You do not have to participate in the more formal show but if you'd like to register I'll have more details on that in the future.
To make things even better, the City of Clarkesville will provide a free shuttle back and forth to downtown Clarkesville to be able to experience the Mountain Laurel Festival without worrying about your vehicle. I'll have more details about the festival in the future as well.
The BIG news is that we are only weeks away from starting on our expansion. This expansion will double the width of the museum and double the length increasing the size to about 30,000 square feet. The expansion will not open all at once, we will have three more phases and open each section as it is filled. We have enough stuff right now to fill the first phase completely, essentially doubling the size of the museum right off the bat.
I've got to tell you some of the things we have coming in are going to absolutely blow your mind. I won't tell you too much just yet, but I will say one of the items coming in is 26 feet long!
I'll keep you posted on our schedule of completion. The goal will be to get it ready as soon as possible. If you're interested in volunteering let me know because we'll need the help or donations will help us cover the cost of things like paint, and construction.
